For years, Facebook kept a certain separation between its main social network and other applications like WhatsApp or Instagram. And that could have had some advantages. For example, when Facebook was hit by the Cambridge Analytica scandal in 2018, Instagram’s reputation wasn’t too badly affected. But gradually, Facebook gives up these separations. Currently, when you open Instagram, you will see the small mention of “from Facebook” at the bottom of the screen, which is displayed when you start the app.
And this week Facebook is taking another step forward to bring the various applications together. In a blog post, the company is introducing a new feature called Account Center, which, as product manager Oren Hod explains, is an easier way to manage features that are present in multiple apps.
“Switching apps to post the same content or entering your credit card information dozens of times is awkward. We want to make it easier for you while also giving you better controls to manage your experience. “the manager explains.
“Regardless of whether you want to share a story on Instagram and Facebook at the same time or log into Instagram with your Facebook account, setting up your account center allows you to control the connected experiences that work in our apps.”, he adds.
Synchronization of logins, publications and payments
At the moment this is just a test. For those who have access to this feature, it is available in the settings of the Facebook, Messenger and Instagram applications. A cross-posting tab allows you to publish content or a story only once to one app, so it is also published to other apps. Facebook also offers a single login.
There is also a tab for account logins as well as a tab for payments. The latter might come in handy, but is currently only available in the US. If you register your bank card on Facebook, it can essentially be used for purchases on Instagram too.
There is also a feature that allows users to sync their names and profile photos on Facebook and Instagram. “” […] For example, you can always select Aisha Ahmed on Facebook and @bakersdozen on your Instagram account. However, you can sync your name and profile picture in our apps. This way, your name or profile picture on Facebook will also be updated on Instagram. “says Oren Hod.
And that’s probably just the beginning. The WhatsApp and Oculus logos also appear on the images of this feature shared by Facebook. This suggests that the Account Center would later also affect these two other Facebook services.
Additionally, it should be noted that Facebook recently announced that the Facebook account will soon be needed to use Oculus products. If a person didn’t previously have a Facebook account, they could use headsets like the Oculus Quest with an Oculus account.
At the same time, Facebook is developing a function that will make the messaging services of Facebook Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp interoperable. In this way, for example, a WhatsApp user can send a message to a Messenger or Instagram user.
