After Apple lifted the veil on a new iPad and a new iPad Air in September, Apple officially presented its new iPhone at another keynote in October. The main novelty of these smartphones is of course 5G. The iPhone 12 not only supports this new generation of connectivity, it also marks the return of MagSafe.
As a reminder, MagSafe is a power connector based on magnets that the Cupertino company used on some of its MacBooks before it was abandoned. But this year the MagSafe is back and this time it’s used on smartphones.
In essence, the MagSafe connector lets you charge an iPhone 12 thanks to a wireless charger plugged into the back and attached to a magnet.
This new way of charging iPhone is more convenient than using a Lightning cable. However, before you buy a MagSafe charger for your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro (iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available in November), there are a few things you should know.
The MagSafe charger will leave marks on leather cases and could damage your credit card
First, note that if you put your iPhone in a leather case, you must remove it before charging your smartphone with MagSafe. Why ? The MageSafe charger can leave circular marks on the leather.
Note, however, that some objects can be damaged if they come into contact with the MagSafe charger. As explained by Apple on a support page: “Do not put credit cards, ID cards, passports, or key rings between your iPhone and the MagSafe charger, as this can damage the magnetic strips or RFID chips on these items. “”
“If you’ve got a case that contains any of these delicate items, remove it before charging it, or make sure it’s not between the back of your device and the charger.”also advises the Cupertino company.
Finally, when it comes to wireless charging, Apple reminds you that your iPhone or charger can get warm while it is charging. To extend battery life, charging may be slower if overheated.
Apple also states that the cable is used when your iPhone is connected to both a Lightning cable and a MagSafe charger.
Otherwise, there are currently many third-party accessories for the iPhone 12 and its variants that are already available in the market. To help you find your way around, we have created a guide to covers, films and protective functions for new Apple smartphones.
And if you are still hesitating between the four models, a comparison will help you fully understand the differences between iPhone, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
