The podcast format has exploded in recent years. And like any good streak, the technology giants are fighting to crush the competition. Spotify has never hidden from wanting to become a leader in this sector and the least we can say is that the Swedish company is not far from living up to its expectations. However, there are still big competitors like Apple Podcasts or Google Podcasts. Unfortunately for Apple and Google it is no longer that easy. These companies are closely monitored by all types of authorities to monitor attempts at anti-competitive practices.

Now when you ask your Google assistant to start a podcast, you don’t have to rely solely on Google Podcasts. It is now possible to configure your account to select your default platform. If you prefer Spotify, your podcasts will now play through Spotify. It looks like Google is rolling out this new option, so it shouldn’t be long before it becomes available.
This is good news considering that Google Podcasts doesn’t own all of the podcasts. Some shows have signed exclusive contracts with different platforms. So far, you haven’t been able to listen to exclusive podcasts through the Google Assistant. This is now possible thanks to this new addition. It should also be noted that Mountain View is making numerous efforts to comply with antitrust regulations.
Lately we’ve learned that Google continues to make plenty of concessions to finalize the Fitbit buyout. That deal began a year ago and Fitbit is still not officially in the ranks of Alphabet. The main reason for this delay is due to the various authorities that disrupted this takeover to make sure everything is done in accordance with the regulations. For its part, Google ensures that the Fitbit buyout involves the design of connected objects and does not use the data generated by Fitbit.
