The year 2020 will not be the same for Apple either. The California giant, which unveiled its new iPhone in September, had to review its plans. The delays caused by the coronavirus have forced it to postpone its long-awaited keynote and with it the commercial launch of its new iPhone 12.
While Apple has comforted fans with the introduction of the new iPad 8 and iPad Air and the Apple Watch Series 6 and SE, the new iPhone 12 remains the most anticipated Apple product of the year. Fortunately, various sources have happily released some information about the upcoming Apple smartphones that is enough to calm your worried little heart. We have therefore sorted the multitude of rumors and selected the most reliable ones to give you an overview what the new iPhone 12 could look like. Because yes, there are several this year too.
How many models of the iPhone 12?
Like every year, Apple should reject its iPhone 12 in several iterations. While we were used to discovering three new products, Apple could offer four iPhone 12s this year, two standards and two pro. The 2020 series would therefore – in addition to the iPhone SE launched at the beginning of the year – consist of an iPhone 12 (5.4-inch screen) – a current rumor is reminiscent of the name iPhone 12 Mini -, an iPhone 12 Max (6 , 1 inch), an iPhone 12 Pro (6.1 inch and better camera) and an iPhone 12 Pro Max (6.7 inch).
What are the prices for the iPhone 12?
There are currently no rumors about the prices of the new iPhone 12. However, we can expect at least similar prices as the previous generation. So count A price between 800 euros for the iPhone 12 and almost 1300 euros for the most expensive model (iPhone 12 Pro Max).
Note that Apple could take advantage of the integration of 5G and LIDAR technology to raise prices. In any case, a Chinese source suggested this and bet on an increase of 50 euros for the standard version or a call price of 859 euros. After all, this is the market trend this year.
What is the iPhone 12 release date?
Again, most emeritus leaks did not provide an exact date. The Covid-19 health crisis has exceeded the plans of the American who postponed the launch of his smartphones. The September keynote therefore left plenty of space for the new iPad 8 and iPad Air as well as the Apple Watch SE and the Series 6.
The new iPhone 12 should therefore be presented at an extraordinary conference for a release planned “this autumn” say the best informed sources. So nothing very specific. Only the American investment bank Cowin Inc mentions an exit for the month of November.
Does the iPhone 12 come with headphones and a charger?
This is the most controversial issue while the iPhone 12 isn’t even announced yet. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst who is known for his (almost) always reliable information, Apple would not provide a power adapter or wired headphones in the box of the iPhone 12.
Even so, and for once, French consumers would be luckier than the rest of the world. Indeed, legislation obliges smartphone manufacturers to provide them with a device that allows conversations to be conducted by moving the phone away from the ear to limit the effects of the waves. In other words, Apple is required to provide headphones for its iPhone 12s.
Will the iPhone 12 be 5G compatible?
If 5G is already being discussed about the allocation of frequencies before the auction in France, its use in the rest of the world has evolved. If Apple managed the deadlock in 2019, the iPhone 12 should be 5G compatible and incorporate a Snapdragon X55 chip from Qualcomm. Some sources suggest that only some models would inherit it, others that all iterations in the 5G version would be rejected. Let’s wait and see.
IPhone 12 design
This year Apple would play the card of nostalgia and add a touch of modernity to the functions of the iPhone 4 (whose design is still praised today). This unusual change (Apple completely changes its design codes every two generations) would allow Apple to create a little surprise.
So l‘The iPhone 12 would be distinguished by its more angular edges, a flat screen and thinner bezels. The notch would be thinner. The chassis would still be made of stainless steel, while the back would be covered in frosted glass with a shiny logo. A new purple-blue color would also make its debut.
120 Hz OLED screen?
Apple’s screen expertise is well established. The competition is raging, however, and the iPhone 11 Pro with its 60 Hz panel pales in comparison to the latest models from Samsung, Oppo or OnePlus. The California giant would therefore integrate a 120 Hz panel (already used on the iPad Pro) for the two premium models (iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max). Where the standard versions should therefore be satisfied with a 60 Hz panel. Apple would include an OLED screen in the entire rangeThe iPhone SE would therefore be the last model to be equipped with an LCD panel.
With Face ID or Touch ID?
Notch or not notch? Apple hasn’t changed the front of its smartphone since the iPhone X. The integration of Face ID, its previously unattainable facial recognition system, is in question. Obviously proud of this find, should the Apple brand continue its momentum. No Touch ID in the new iPhones, but Face ID.
That remains for the first time Apple could redesign that unsightly notch to make it more discreet. It would therefore be narrower and leave more space on the screen. If some rumors sparked Face ID’s integration under the platter, more reliable sources suggest the technology wouldn’t be ready for the iPhone 13 until 2021.
Power: A14 Bionic Chip
As every year, Apple should use the launch of its new iPhone to introduce a new chip. The iPhone 12 would therefore be integrated logically the A14 Bionic engraved in 5 nm and manufactured by TSMC. Does this name mean something to you? It is normal. After the health crisis messed up the brand’s schedule, the recently announced iPad Air is already taking the A14 Bionic on board. Apple speaks of a 40% increase in performance and 30% faster graphics processing. Numbers that make you dizzy. On the other hand, Jon Prosser argues that the iPhone 12 (standard) would still be offered with 64 GB of storage. Yes, in 2020.
Autonomy and charging
Formerly derided for its disastrous autonomy, the iPhone is now among the best around (thanks iPhone 11 Pro). Apple should therefore stay on course with the new iPhone 12. It could be even better, the A14 Bionic’s 11.8 billion transistors allow a little tweaking.
No major changes are expected on the charging side, except Remove the power supply from the box. Mentioned for a long time, replacing the lightning connector with a USB-C would not be relevant. However, Apple could make this important change with the iPhone 13 in 2021.
Camera: Nice little LIDAR
Who says new models means improved cameras. However, Apple would again reserve the best of its technologies for the two premium versions. In order to, iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max should integrate the LIDAR sensor We discovered that on the iPad Pro 2020. Its main advantage: it manages depths better and creates a 3D plan of its surroundings in a radius of 20 meters. For example, what to do to improve the quality of portraits?
The iPhone 12 and 12 Max, for their part, should integrate the same two sensors as the iPhone 11. Apple should use the potential of the A14 Bionic to improve the overall quality of the recordings or even, why not, open up new modes of shooting.
