A few days ago, Google finally lifted the veil on its new flagship, the Pixel 5. To stand out from the crowd, Google decided to offer this smartphone at a relatively cheap price of less than 650 euros (while some models cost twice as expensive). Thus, the Pixel 5 is a competitor of models like the Galaxy Note 20 or the Mi 10 Pro as well as of mid-range devices like the OnePlus North.
In order for the Pixel 5 not to cost too much, the company had to make some sacrifices on the spec sheet. For example, the Pixel 5 uses the Snapdragon 765 G processor, while most premium 2020 models use the Snapdragon 865. Also, the Pixel 5 doesn’t use the Soli Radar, a sensor that Google introduced with the Pixel. 4 in 2019.
Of course, Google largely compensates for these deficiencies at the hardware level by optimizing the software. One of the best features that Google offers for the Pixel 5, but also for the 5G version of the Pixel 4a, is a new mode for saving energy.
Google Pixel smartphones already have a power saving mode to extend the battery life. However, on the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, Google offers an enhanced version of this mode called “Extreme Battery Saver”. When this mode is activated, the device can last 48 hours.

How is it possible ?
“To save energy, Battery Saver restricts apps and functions. On phones with Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a (5G), Extreme Battery Saver halts most apps, disables functions and slows down processes in addition to the limits for the battery saver. “explains Google.
For example, when extreme mode is enabled, the operating system slows down the processor. Bluetooth and WiFi will continue to work but will no longer perform scans. The screen turns off after 30 seconds of inactivity. While most apps are paused, they no longer send notifications.
Soon on other Pixel models
This is not a way to get the most out of a smartphone. However, this mode can be very useful in certain situations, e.g. B. If there is a power outage or if you are in an area with no power.
And the good news is, this new extreme power-saving mode doesn’t just apply to the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G. According to our colleagues at Android Police, Google has already indicated that this new feature will also be offered on previous Pixel smartphones, so you don’t have to buy a Pixel 5 or a Pixel 4a 5G to take advantage of Extreme Battery Saver.
Otherwise, we remind you that in addition to the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, Google has also lifted the veil of a new connected speaker that will succeed Google Home in 2016, as well as a new Chromecast key that comes with a remote control.
