When it comes to dating sites and applications, choosing which photos will be visible to other users is of the utmost importance. In addition to highlighting these photos, they should also enable communication about your personality, passions, etc.
And of course, a few details can make all the difference. For example, in a previous article, we forwarded a study that found that if your photo displayed an Apple product, you were more likely to have a match.
Today we’re passing on another study that says posting a photo of yourself with your cat if you are male might be a bad idea. In an article published on The Conversation, researchers from Colorado State University and Boise State University (USA) share their experiences on the subject.
These recruited 1,388 American and straight women between the ages of 18 and 24. “In the survey, we presented them with photos of one of two young white men in their early twenties posing alone or with a cat.”we read in the article. These women noted three attributes: masculinity, femininity, and “datability” (or, in other words, whether they would be conducive to meeting the person).
Findings: Most women say they would be less favorable to meeting men who keep cats. But why ? Researchers believe women may find the men who keep cats less masculine.
You can always try removing your chat from your profile to see what changes have been made
“We suspect that old cultural norms may play a role in the answers. Previous research suggests that male femininity and homosexuality are still linked. Because cats are sometimes more closely associated with female owners – and therefore viewed as female pets – posing with cats may have led the women in our survey to adopt this archaic trope despite some standard popular media efforts to upgrade the status of male cat owners “explains the article by the two researchers.
Of course, like other study results, these could be contradicted later. But if you’re male, using a dating site, and have a photo with a cat, maybe you can try replacing that photo with a cat-less photo to see if it works. Have an impact on your chances of playing games.
