This article is for informational purposes. It’s not about encouraging our readers to engage in illegal activity over the dark internet.
The dark web has been talking about it for several years. It raises both questions and fantasies about what you can find there and how to get there. To make it easier for you to understand and to facilitate access to the dark web (also known as the Darknet), we have created a small, simple and effective tutorial below.
Go to the dark web
First of all, you should know that the dark web is bringing together a network of websites that are not indexed by traditional search engines like Google or Bing. The other element to consider is the fact that the dark web can be accessed through certain web browsers (like the Tor browser discussed below) which give the user an element of anonymity.
Be careful though, just because you’re using one of these doesn’t mean you won’t leave a mark. Either way, we recommend that you use a VPN to create a level of security and anonymity when browsing the dark internet. One of the best VPNs is none other than ExpressVPN : It offers maximum security and does not keep any logs of your data. There are also CyberGhost and NordVPN who are known for their anonymity.
To protect yourself and access the dark web, here are:
To get into the dark web, you’ll need to download one of these browsers. Best known is certainly Tor (The Onion Router), the name of which refers to the different layers of the onion and, in this case, to the web. This is a Firefox-like version with some special features and an additional level of anonymity. Tor Browser does not offer a history or backup of your data, which comes with anonymity.
It is therefore necessary to download the browser from the official website of Gate project. Once you are on that site, click on Download the Tor browserThen choose your operating system and save the file. On the Mac, slide the browser into your applications and open it. In a few seconds, you can securely connect to the dark network.
After you download and then open the Tor browser, you will be browsing the internet using a browser that will allow you to hide your IP address. You can therefore leave fewer traces of your passage while accessing the URLs in .onion (which is nothing more than the dark web / dark net).
However, your throughput will be somewhat reduced as the requests you make traverse multiple nodes. You can use these to hide your IP address. Even so, you can continue to surf the dark internet without interruption.
Then you have to go to the hidden wiki, a kind of Wikipedia that brings together those famous URLs that are not indexed in traditional search engines. That way, you can discover all the content available on the dark web. All URLs end with .onion and are not accessible via a conventional browser (such as Google). You can find the topic-specific links in the Hidden Wiki. This is what the list of .onion URLs looks like.
These links are part of the dark web. Not all of them are legal because of the services they provide access to. So pay attention to the websites you visit and the files you may download. However, Hidden Wiki does not collect all URLs available in the dark network.
You’ll need to consult specific forums to find additional URLs that you can use to access other services. In the past few years, some of the biggest ecommerce websites have disappeared from the dark web. You need to know how to patiently search the forums to find alternatives. The dark web is growing a lot, but you can find all sorts of things there.
