Soon you will be able to watch series or movies with your friends Disney +but without being physically together. In fact, the Disney streaming service has just announced a new feature called co-viewing, which works very similarly to watch parties or sessions on Facebook.
Essentially, this feature allows multiple subscribers (up to 7) to sync the playback of a video to watch it at the same time. In addition to simultaneous reading, the feature also offers responses similar to social networks (“like”, “funny”, “sad”, “angry”, “afraid” and “surprised”) in order to ” interact with other participants. Each participant also has the option of controlling the measured value.
“Storytelling comes to life when you can share and enjoy it. During this time, when many are still separated from friends and family, GroupWatch offers a way to connect practically seamlessly. Security by sharing your favorite Disney + content with loved ones from the comfort of your living room. “says Jerrell B Jimerson, SVP product management at Disney +.
To generate the invitations you will need to use the Disney + website or mobile application. On the other hand, videos can be co-watched on other media such as smart TVs.
Unfortunately, this feature is currently not available in France. After testing in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, Disney is launching this new feature in the US. This will not arrive in Europe until later in the autumn.
Virtually new ways to be together
As with live broadcasts, video conferencing apps, and messaging, apps and services that allow users to watch videos or listen to music together have increased during the lockdown.
Spotify has launched a feature that allows subscribers to listen to playlists at the same time. And Netflix users watching extensions like Netflix Party together have been hugely popular.
Additionally, after the launch of GroupWatch by Disney, we hope that Netflix can be inspired by it to bring similar functionality to its subscribers (even if there are already unofficial solutions for watching movies and series together).
