New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton was used on Sunday in the team’s 33-6 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He threw three interceptions and zero touchdowns before being replaced by Jarrett Stidham.

“I wasn’t good enough,” said Newton. “I have in no way enabled this team to take part in competitions. It’s inexcusable. It’s the National Football League that puts a lot on the quarterback and I have to deliver. I did not do that. In all honesty, it’s obvious.
Newton had 15 passes for just 98 yards and a quarterback rating of 39.7.
“The energy has definitely been cut off for me, and sometimes it’s not pleasant when you walk on yourself with that aura that you are not. I love playing this soccer game. I enjoy this soccer game, but I didn’t enjoy the performances here.
Newton will continue to be the starter in the future: “I just wanted to give Stid a little experience,” said Belichick.
“We were clearly overtrained and overplayed in almost everything,” he said. “We have to keep working here and find a way to do everything better.”
The patriots now have 2-4.
